我们家和加拿大有着深厚的联系。我曾有幸在亚伯达省卡尔加里市做学生实习牧师。我们的女儿在那里出生，所以她拥有加拿大和美国双重国民身份。因为在那里有太多美好经历了，很难挑选出我们在加拿大最喜欢的回忆。
在这个跨越犹太人和外邦人界线的故事中，我们读到：“（现在）我真看出神是不偏待人。”彼得学到了一个有关神慷慨恩典的重要功课。他不仅仅是看见了令人震惊的异象，也听到了哥尼流奇妙的见证。
彼得和哥尼流是这个故事的中心人物，然而我们也应该注意到在那里的其他人。哥尼流招聚了一大群亲朋好友，彼得也带着一些受割礼的犹太信徒。在这次聚集中，圣灵打破了障碍，把这两群人拉到一起。圣灵被浇灌在外邦人身上，那些受割礼的信徒都很希奇。他们没想到会这样！
神打破了陈规，拆除了隔阂，藉着洗礼的水——人人都成为神的儿女，在共同的信仰中成为兄弟姐妹。神不偏待人！
全地的神，请赦免我们竖起高墙，把自己和你其他的儿女分开。愿你的灵倾注在一切呼求耶稣之名的人身上。阿们。
使徒行传 10:23b-48
23次日起身和他们同去，还有约帕的几个弟兄同着他去。
24又次日，他们进入恺撒利亚。哥尼流已经请了他的亲属密友等候他们。
25彼得一进去，哥尼流就迎接他，俯伏在他脚前拜他。
26彼得却拉他，说：“你起来，我也是人。”
27彼得和他说着话进去，见有好些人在那里聚集，
28就对他们说：“你们知道，犹太人和别国的人亲近来往本是不合例的，但神已经指示我，无论什么人都不可看做俗而不洁净的。
29所以我被请的时候，就不推辞而来。现在请问：你们叫我来有什么意思呢？”
30哥尼流说：“前四天这个时候，我在家中守着申初的祷告，忽然有一个人穿着光明的衣裳，站在我面前，
31说：‘哥尼流，你的祷告已蒙垂听，你的赒济达到神面前已蒙记念了。
32你当打发人往约帕去，请那称呼彼得的西门来，他住在海边一个硝皮匠西门的家里。’
33所以我立时打发人去请你。你来了很好！现今我们都在神面前，要听主所吩咐你的一切话。”
34彼得就开口说：“我真看出神是不偏待人，
35原来各国中那敬畏主、行义的人都为主所悦纳。
36神藉着耶稣基督——他是万有的主——传和平的福音，将这道赐给以色列人。
37这话在约翰宣传洗礼以后，从加利利起，传遍了犹太。
38神怎样以圣灵和能力膏拿撒勒人耶稣，这都是你们知道的。他周流四方，行善事，医好凡被魔鬼压制的人，因为神与他同在。
39他在犹太人之地并耶路撒冷所行的一切事，有我们作见证。他们竟把他挂在木头上杀了！
40第三日，神叫他复活，显现出来，
41不是显现给众人看，乃是显现给神预先所拣选为他作见证的人看，就是我们这些在他从死里复活以后和他同吃同喝的人。
42他吩咐我们传道给众人，证明他是神所立定的，要做审判活人、死人的主。
43众先知也为他作见证说：‘凡信他的人，必因他的名得蒙赦罪。’”
44彼得还说这话的时候，圣灵降在一切听道的人身上。
45那些奉割礼、和彼得同来的信徒，见圣灵的恩赐也浇在外邦人身上，就都稀奇，
46因听见他们说方言，称赞神为大。
47于是彼得说：“这些人既受了圣灵，与我们一样，谁能禁止用水给他们施洗呢？”
48就吩咐奉耶稣基督的名给他们施洗。他们又请彼得住了几天。
“The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles.” — Acts 10:45
Our family has strong connections with Canada. I had the privilege to be a student intern pastor in Calgary, Alberta. Our daughter was born there, so she enjoys citizenship in both Canada and the United States. Because of so many good experiences there, it’s hard to narrow down what our favorite memory from Canada is.
In the middle of this story about crossing Jewish and Gentile boundaries we read, “I now realize ... that God does not show favoritism.” Peter has learned important lessons about God’s generous grace. He not only received a startling vision, but he also heard the amazing testimony of Cornelius.
While Peter and Cornelius are at the center of this story, we should also notice the other people there. Cornelius has gathered a large crowd of relatives and friends, and Peter has brought along some circumcised (Jewish) believers. In the midst of this gathering, the Holy Spirit breaks down barriers and draws these groups together. The Holy Spirit is poured out on the Gentiles, and the circumcised believers are in awe. They did not expect this!
God breaks through stereotypes and separation, and—by the waters of baptism—everyone is sealed as children of God and as brothers and sisters in faith together. No favorites!
God of all, forgive us for putting up walls to divide ourselves from others of your children. May your Spirit pour out afresh on all who call on the name of Jesus. Amen.
